Does lazy parents=lazy kids?

My mother was really lazy when I was growing up. Now I hate to bash her because she was a good mom but honestly just lazy. She kept the main part of our house clean (kitchen and living room) but hid everything else in our basement and attic. It wasn't even that she was a hoarder because she didn't care about any of this stuff. She just never took the time to sort it and clean up. Eventually it was such a huge mess it took a whole month to clean when we moved out. The thing I remember most about it was I never had clean clothes in my closet or drawers. My mom washed clothes but never put them away. I had to dig through a pile and find clothes that matched everyday. Now that I am an adult with children of my own I struggle with the same things. I feel I am more motivated than my mother but at the same time I feel I am not doing enough. How will this effect my kids? will they always have messy houses too?
