Why does he call me "miss (surname) " instead of just Lilly?

My teacher has a strange habit of calling me "Miss (surname)" instead of Lilly. It's not a sign of respect - he says it with a smug tone and a sly smile. I have no idea why he does this. He doesn't do it to anyone else.
